For Mexican, try Casa Romero. It is just off Newbury St. in the Back Bay. Indian in the same neighborhood, try Bombay Cafe on Mass Ave.- across from the Christian Science Center. ############################################################################ Rahul Singh [email removed] Northeastern University ############################################################################

There are also lots of other Indian Restaurants in that neighborhood. You might want to check out China Town. I can never remember the names of specific restaurants, but look for "Best of Boston" awards in the window. It's a small area, so you can browse around before deciding on a place. Pho Pasteur has great Vietnamese food. There is one in China Town, but there is also one in Allston that has better decor and might be a little more reliable. Mexican: There are a couple of passable places, but Boston is not that great for Mexican. The Border Cafe in Harvard Square is crowded and fun. Has combination TexMex and Creole menu. Excellent fajitas and good margaritas. Surprisingly inexpensive for such a popular place. I'm not saying the food is first-rate mexican, but it is a happy, crowded spot that is fun to visit. There is a great Ramen place in Porter Square, Cambridge (Red Line). It's in the Porter Exchange building, on Mass Ave as you walk back towards Harvard. There are a bunch of small Japanese eating spots, and Sapporo Ramen is one of them. Big bowls of excellent ramen. Very informal, table sharing atmosphere. Lots of Japanese eat there. There's an inexpensive sushi counter in the same complex. There's lots more, but this is what comes immediately to mind Christine
One of my favorite restaurants is The Green Street Grill located in Central Square, Cambridge. It's a dive of a place, but the food is excellent, lots of spicey dishes influenced by various cuisines from around the world. Don't miss it!

I also like Magnolia's in Inman Sq, a 10 min walk or so from Central Sq. Sonsie is good and as trendy as it gets in Boston, right by Hynes Convention Green line stop. The Mercury Bar by Boylston (Green line) is good also, and has a "scene" with it too. The Parish Cafe has lots of celebrity chef gourmet sandwiches and the Blue Wave, both by Arlington Green line are good and reasonably priced. Skipjack's and Grill fish in that area are good for seafood too. All that said, the best meal I've had in recent memory was at Chez Henri on Shepherd St. right off Mass Ave. between the Harvard Sq. and Porter Sq. stops on the red line. It was awesome. Too bad I haven't been reading this newsgroup lately. Forgot to ask about good recommendations for Sydney and Melbourne but I'm leaving in an hour so... Joanie

It was awesome. Although I haven't eaten at Chez Henri yet, my husband has eaten there twice, and he raved about it, too, both times. It's a cross between Cuban and French, and it's casual. Carol
