Last Tues. we went to the 3 course duck dinner that the B-Side was having with two guest chefs. Had to take the early 6:00 seating cuz it was supposedly sold out. However, there were many empty tables at that time and when I asked if we could have the booth (for 2) instead of the table against the wall, I was told that the seating was all figured out and it was gonna get so crowded. We sat at our seats like good girls and not one other table in that section was seated the whole time. Oh well. Thankfully, the food was awesome. A duck soup by Paul O'Connell that had an onion soup feel to it. Smoked duck leg by the B-Side guy that was awesome, in some thick sauce. And duck breast with greens and mashed parsnips, can't remember which chef did this. Also very good. Finished with cold duck sorbet with fresh fruit on top, just the right amount of dessert. Thurs. I went to Clio for my second time, treating my brother for his b-day. I have to say, I think you get the least amount of food for your money here. He had a tuna tartare appetizer that he loved, black pepper crusted swordfish for an entree and I had three styles of lamb with polenta (one of the few entrees with a starch). Very good lamb. Warm chocolate cake and creme brulee were our desserts. No wine was under $32 a bottle, got some nice white whose name was something like Wina... (sorry Thor). Fun waitress, nice hostess (easy on my brother's eyes) and a nice experience. But even Casey who never comparison shops got a kick out of price:portion ratio. A quick meal at Tiernan's in the Financial District Sat. evening. Very reasonably priced entrees but the sandwiches were kinda over- priced. $8.95 for my burger and zillions of shoestring fries. I was still jonesing for a burger after not being quite satisfied with that one the other week. The turkey club was huge with real turkey meat, as it should be for $9.95. Good choice of beers, good place to watch the NCAA. No reason to go out of your way for it. Joanie
