We'll have a car, so something near Frederick would be OK, Right down town there is a restaurant called Tarasco ( or close to that ). It is kind of Italian, kind of modern grill, kind of upscale pizza place with an outstanding wine list. About ten miles outside of town is the Old South Mountain Inn which is very romantic.

From time to time we have eaten at a place Jennifer's on West Patrick. Relatively simple fare but well done. A few weeks ago I had a very nice chicken pot pie and my wife had an Irish cheese sandwich. Jennifer the owner is usually there and provides a nice atmosphere. Dinner entree not counting alcohol (I believe they have Guiness on tap) would run about $11.00 - $15.00 by my memory. Directions: Left off Market onto West Patrick, west a couple of blocks, few doors past Bentz St. just past the Carroll Creek bridge on the right. Parking is available around back. You might want to simply park along North Market Street (one-way northbound) or on one of the side streets, or in the public garage just east of N. Market Street on Church Street ($1.00 after business hours), and stroll along N. Market Street to see what appeals to you. The upscale restaurants in Frederick which my wife and I have been to, all very good, are Dutch's Daughter (where Rtes. 40 and 40A split), Hagan's Tavern (5018 Old National Pike, Rte. 40A), and The Brown Pelican, 5 East Church Street at N. Market St. You would probably need a reservation at any of these during the weekend. Three unpretentious moderately-priced restaurants with really good food, where we like to take guests, are The Orchard (45 N. Market), The Province (131 N. Market), and Nido Italiano (111 E. Patrick). Then there's Brewer's Alley (124 N. Market) which combines a noisy brewpub with a more sedate restaurant. There are lots of other places I don't know enough about to comment on.
