Try Gunnings for a dozen jumbo hard shell crabs steamed with tons of Old Bay. Mallot brown paper table cover and industrial strength napkins included. Joe D.

An alternative (slightly more upscale) is the The Prime Rib. This is a Baltimore tradition. As the name suggests, it is red meat (and some seafood). The crab meat cocktail is out of this world.

I envy you. I wish I were going to Baltimore, it's one of my favorite cities. From my experience, most everything that is good to see in Baltimore is around the "Inner Harbor" area which is easily accessable from I95 which has an exit labled specifically "Inner Harbor." This would be off I395 but this place is highly visable from the highway. The restaurants in the pavilion there are decent but mainly unremarkable. Pizzeria Uno is always a good bet but the Nickle City Grill is aslo good. There are about a dozen places within easy and pleasant walking distance from eachother featuring Indian, Chinese, American and a host of other kinds of restaurants. About one half mile to the east of the Inner Harbor is Little Italy neighborhood with some very good restaurants and Fells Point also has some good places as well as some interesting bars. All of these places are safe after dark and if you drive, find a central parking spot and walk.

Here are some of my favorites:

Pierpoint on Aliceanna St. in Fells Point. Chef Nancy Longo does great things with Marland cuisine in her intimate row house location. Great Place.

Donna's in Mt. Vernon section.

All time best crabcakes: Faidley's in the Lexington Market. Go for lunch and be prepared to stand up and savour lump backfin crabcakes the size of King Kong's fist for about eight bucks each.
