I've been away from maine for awhile, but a new place in the Old Port in Portland, called the Pepper Club, is one of the "neatest" places I've ever eaten. No menus, just a daily specials board, consisting of eight to 14 regional and ethinic/national specialties, and I'm talking authentic. My wife (whose family hails from Portugal) tried the Portugese pork entree and raved all the (4hrs.) way home about the dish. I tried a "Dutch winter casserole" that was out of this world, and vegetarian (which I'm not.) Other specialties included cajun, japanese and a variety of others, and the decor was very chic.
