Camden Maine suggestions?

Well, we're off for our annual trip to Camden!
Except, due to circumstances beyond my control
(my husband decided to go to Cornell from 1991-1996) we haven't BEEN on our annual trip to Camden in 6 years.

I need to know where to go to get the ultimate
FISH (fish, not clam) chowder in Camden. I used
to love the chowder at the village restaurant...
it was piled high with fish and very little potato. Where's a good place to go for it now? (It shouldn't be too fancy, we're taking the kids... OTOH, it is our 10th wedding anniversary).

Is Fitzpatricks Deli still there serving breakfast?

Does the laughing cow giftshop still have free coffee on the deck?

Of course we'll stop in Waldeboro on the trip up at Moody's Diner for their oatmeal and coffee. Maybe on the way back we'll stop at Spinney's right next to Fort Popham. Please tell me we won't drive up to either of these places to find they have been gone for years.

We are also planning a stop in NYC to see the
Hippodrome ....;)

Also are the two lobster joints still
accross the road from each other in Lincolnville
Beach? I used to like the one on the land side
better than the bigger place on the oceanside,
in addition to great lobsters they had a fresh
raspberry pie worth changing your plans for.

I just gotta get into the ocean. Been landlocked
too long!!!

Moody's will never die! Neither will the lobster shacks in Lincolnville Beach.

We stay in Camden every other year, and have found several great places to eat, unfortunately not in Camden.

Check out Cafe Miranda in Rockland (just south of Camden). This little jewel has been open about 4 years, and turns out some of the best and most reasonably priced dinners north of (and including) Boston. It is small, and very popular, so you have to reserve. (207) 594.2034 Closed Monday. It is informal enough for the kids, and good enough for an anniversary!

Another excellent dinner house is Jessica's on the Rockland/Owls Head border. Very, very good food at excellent prices. Again, reserve: (207) 596-0770. This place is somewhat formal, but there are quite a few appetizer kinds of things th at would suit children...soups, pizzas, etc.

In Camden, itself, one of our favorite lunches is to go to the fish store on the north end of the main street and buy cartons of fresh picked crab and cocktail sauce, take it back to the deck where we stay and pig out.

Should you be looking for another "pit stop" on your trip, do you know Sarah's in Wiscasset? It is a pizza, super hero and sandwich place on the main street, and serves a home made bread and soup (3 kinds) special at lunch. Last time we were there, as I remember, a mug and 3 chunks of bread (focaccio, blackberry, multigrain, etc.) of your choice was $2.95; a bowl, with a refill, plus same bread was $3.95. Worst part is that for $6.00, we always leave overfed!

This is an "off year" for us...so please give our regards to Camden, and chow down once for us.

I cannot speak to the best fish chowder in the area but I can reliably report that Moody's is alive and well, open twenty four hours, cash only and still has the best values in Maine. Believe it or not, they have modernized the dining room. Well maybe not modern but maybe brought it up to the 50's with new panelling. Enjoy! Enid K. wrote in article ...
