Inexpensive to moderate Tokyo area recommendations?

You rang? ;-)

Looks like you've gotten some good advice so far. Just poke around the neighborhood especially around office buildings and train stations there are small places where the "office workers" eat. If you have time, go to Kinokuniya bookstore in Japantown (Post & Webster, SF) and look at the Tokyo Journal, they usually have restaurant reviews. TJ has also put out a book "Tokyo Restaurant Guide" that reviews more than 300 places with a variety of price ranges. The reviews are in both English and Japanese.

If you'll forgive a shameless plug, you can stop by the Japan National Tourist Organization at 360 Post (Union Square) and pick up maps and brochures on Tokyo. We also have one copy of the "Tokyo Restaurant Guide" that you can look through, if you don't want to buy it. (JNTO doesn't sell anything, just provides tourist information) If you call, we can send maps and brochures by mail.

Also there are JNTO offices in Tokyo and Narita Airport.

Have a good trip!
