We spent 3 weeks in Italy in June--our second trip and our 2nd week in Rome. A restaurant near the Spanish Steps which we liked (went there 2x) is called 37 or EL 37. You can find it in some of your guides. It's very good; not cheap, but not expensive by Rome's standards. Another in the same painted on vaulted ceilings. This may be a little difficult to locate but well worth the effort. It is near Quirnale, on a very small piazza. We ate there on our first trip and returned again in June for an equally memorable experience. Incidentally, the 37 is only a couple of blocks from the Spanish Steps, take the street directly opposite and go about two blocks. Almost anyone in the area can direct you. It is more touristy than the Presidente. Sounds as if you are staying at Internationale Hotel. Oh, we feel the Gioletti has the best gelato in all of Italy--must have at least 50 kinds to choose from. It is very close to Piazza Navona and cheaper than sitting at one of the cafe's on the piazza. At one point we paid $11 for two (albeit large) dishes of ice cream!! We've spent a fair amount of time in Tuscany, Florence, and Venice. I'd be happy to answer other questions. Italy is a favorite of ours. You can email me at lucy::jreichard.edu.com.
