Anyone for Persian food? Reza's, on Clark just north of Berwyn, is excellent - the prices are low, the menu is large, and the service is fine. I particularly recommend their chicken dishes. But if you're going to go there, arrive hungry and bring your cash because at Reza's, they don't cater to small appetites, and they don't take American Express. Or Visa. Or any other credit card in existence.

Is there anyone out there with suggestions for Japanese food?

Plain, basic, simple, cheap "hole in the wall" type place:
    NEW JAPAN
    45 W. Division
    Chicago, Ill.
    phone: +1-312-7874248
This place is tucked away in the rush street area (=Establishment Watering Holes) but is largely unspoiled. I have gone there since 1985 and quality has been consistent ever since. My wife loves the sushi, I go for the Ramen withe the optional been sprouts. The place is reachable via "L" (=tube, subway). Use Clark / Division exit. Don't venture West from there, East is ok. If you passed the Jewel store you are going the wrong way. Plan on parking a car? Good luck! Either try an odd time or be prepared to pay more for parking than for your meal, either in fees or fines.
    Enjoy!

I generally go for sashimi/sushi in Japanese restaurants. There are several reasonable places in the Belmont/Clark area, but my favorite is the first one north of Belmont on Halsted, on the west side of the street. I don't remember the name but there's a flower on the sign. It's $7 (similar price for most sushi places in the area) for maybe 4 different types of fish, octupus and a couple other items, plus two roes and 6 or so California roll-type things. I haven't tried the other menu items, but they look pretty reasonable.

Another place in Chicago for sushi is Hatsuhanna's (sp?). It was great. I haven't been there for several years and price wise I'm not sure. I went on an expense account so I didn't notice. I believe it was near the lake, downtown. Ughh. I could be way off, but it was in Chicago. :-) Have fun!
