I've been there a couple of times and have never been disappointed with their food or their very attentive service. While some might go on about the nearby Parthenon (which can be fun for large crowds), I prefer the somewhat subtler Pegasus. (At the Parthenon, if it's extremely crowded, you might as well be sitting on your neighbor's lap-- that's how packed they place their patrons!!) I would recommend one of the sampler plates at Pegasus, because they give you hefty portions of each dish, and you get to try a little bit of everything. Also, try the house wine-- it's (usually) a can't miss. Adam

Which OUTSTANDING Greek restaurant would you suggest?
A Greek friend says that the closest she's had to home cooking is at Sayat Nova (which is Armenian). Karen (Opera Buffa) What I know about opera is laughable. Send e-mail to bikrbabe @ aol.com
I have NEVER been anything BUT disappointed at the Greek Isles. I second the nod for Pegasus - very underdone (the service, not the food) and subtle - a nice quiet place. Food is very good with a bit more imaginative menu than some of the other Halsted places. Next door is Santorini which I always enjoy, particularly if you after good seafood (snapper and sea bass); their charcoal grilled octo is usually one of my appetizers (and the taramosalata). Santorini is especially nice once the weather turns wintry as they have an open fireplace on the first level. It's nice to come out of the winter weather and be seated down there near the fire. I'll be the exception to the rule and reccommend two Greek restaurants which are not in Greektown-
1) Cafe Mediterraneo on Lincoln 1 1/2 blocks north of Montrose
This place has excellent food and spectacular dips Skorthalia Tzatziki
etc. Nice atmosphere and usually easy parking.
2) Psistaria 4711 N. Touhy 1/2 block off the Edens 847-676-9400
This place was opened by the brother of the guy who runs CM and is also
excellent and easily the best you can get near the North Shore. I've been going to both of these restaurants for many years and my Sister in law who is married to a Greek guy and has lived in Ano Voula outside of Athens for eight years says it's the best she has had here. I know it's the only place we go with a large party because they are very accomodating. A satisfied customer (in case you hadn't noticed) Eliyahu [Eli] Ross wrote in message ...

This area is one I hang out in, and I am trying to place this place but I can't. 1.5 blocks north of Montrose makes it .5 blocks south of Wilson? right there are the Grecian Taverna on the east and Simplon Orient Express on the west. Are you sure you don't mean the Grecian Taverna? Also, another 1.25 blocks north on Lincoln, just south of Lawrence, is Barba Yianni's Grecian Taverna. They make good lamb dishes, but I usually make a meal of mezze. They have great cold stuffed grape leaves (stuffed with very minty rice and served with thick tart yoghurt), grilled quail, griled octopus and sauteed sweetbreads in a delicious tomato sauce.
