Might be too expensive, but try Cafe Patou
(contemporary French), 3929 Broadway,
815/227-4100, or Cliffbreakers River Restaurant
(classic steak and seafood, rather amazing decor), 700 N. Riverside Blvd., 815/282-3033.

There's a decent teppanyaki and sushi bar, JMK
Nippon, 2615 N. Mulford Road, 815/877-0505.

For cheap eats, there's also a wonderful barbecue
hut, owned by the mayor's family, called Box's
Bar-B-Q, 815 Marchesano Dr., 815/962-9629 --
fabulous pork shoulder.

For breakfast, try the Swedish pancakes at the
Stockholm Inn, 2420 Charles St., 815/397-3534.
