West 'burb Restaurants - Sullivan's Steakhouse

Just a few notes about new restaurants in the Western 'burbs.

Sullivan's Steak House - Naperville
This place is the newest addition to a chain. There is another in Austin TX and one going up in Denver. The design is typical high-end steakhouse with a theme that revolves around John L. Sullivan. Nice bar
- cigars welcome. Restaurant is one large room with a narrow side room that can be closed off. A bit noisy but not bad.

Food is also typical high-end steakhouse. The house salad is a fresh quarter head of iceberg lettuce with bleu cheese dressing. All the usual steaks are served ala carte. Sides are extra. If you order sides be advised they are large. Get 2 sides for 4 people and you'll eat family style.

Dessert list is not extensive but there is enough variety. A chocolate souffle takes about 1/2 hr to prepare so order it ahead of time. When we were there the chef dropped it so we settled for a 'brownie'. They should call this item something besides a brownie because it's a lot more than that. Sweet chocolate crust on a small bowl of something like a thick pudding is the best I can do to describe it. Very good.

Prices are moderate to high. Menu is similar to Morton's but maybe slightly less expensive. Reservations necessary. Parking available in public lots < 1 block away.

If you like steak and don't like Sullivan's I can suggest a much better option. Go to a place called Krapil's in Worth. The steaks are bigger, cheaper and the parking is right outside the door. Krapil's has been in business for many years at several locations. The place in Worth has new owners as of about 1 year ago but they didn't change a thing. Good old time 'roadhouse' style steak house without the expensive frills of a place like Sullivan's. Krapil's is on 111th street at 294. West of Ridgeland on 111th. Take 294 to 95th and go south on Ridgeland to 111th. Turn West about 3 blocks to Krapil's - just before you get to 294. Parking is right outside the door.
