The bf and I inadvertently went there this weekend to buy homebrew supplies from "Let's Brew It!". It turns out that the homebrew shop is connected to a brewery with a restaurant. We had a very fun time with Jim, the guy who was manning the homebrew shop. He gave us a tour of the restaurant and brewery as well as a few samples and a brunch, V-day dinner, Brewmaster's dinner and regular menu. If the food is as good as the beer was, this place is a find. The menu isn't your typical bar food, no wings, hotdogs etc. I noticed gado gado and mee goreng on the menu, and asked if there were SE Asians who worked there...turns out the wife of one of the owners is Indonesian, and the chef is adventurous. We are going to try and go for brunch sometime soon, and will report back on the food. The beer that we tasted was fabulous (a rye stout, a tippel and a honey blond), the atmosphere nice, with exposed brick walls, lots of wood, and a cool mural upstairs in the lounge. Has anyone checked them out? They have a homepage with menus: www.designameri.com/index.html and their address is: 2354 N. Clybourn (a bit south of Fullerton) 773-868-4461 regards, trillium

Some friends & I went there for a late dinner about 3 weeks ago & we liked it very much. 3 of the ppl we were w/ were vegetarian & there were some different things for them to choose from. The beer was good. I had the honey blonde ale? i think that was the name. it was very smooth..very good. We got there after 8 pm & they were out of 3 or 4 things..but the waitress was very cool & recommended some other good things. It was a Sunday night & the place was empty...but it was during one of those really cold nights that we went there..so I guess ppl weren't feeling too adventurous that night. But it was a really nice place..good food ..great beer. Except I would skip dessert...maybe I'm somewhat snobbish when it comes to dessert(i'm a pastry chef), but the desserts were obviously frozen. I mean they were served frozen. i got some triple chocolate thing & the cake was literally frozen. you could see the freezer burn on this baby. I couldn't eat it .but tomy husband ,chocolate is chocolate...so he finished it.

went there for v-day and just wanted to share my $.02... to start, we had potstickers (they were heart-shaped...nice touch) and a salad of aragula, macadamia nuts and goat cheese. i had the macadamia-nut crusted mahi mahi. it was served w/ a black bean cake w/mango-corn relish and steamed aragula. the bf had prime rib. it was served with the best asparagus i've ever had (i think it was marinated in something and then grilled) and garlic mashed potatoes. dessert was rasberry/chocolate mousse...too rich to finish after all the food, but wonderful. oh, and beer of course...we had their new danish triple ?? (8.5% alcohol). incredibly smooth for such a strong brew. everything was excellent! we will definately be back soon. -k
