I don't have a top five, mainly because the only sushi/Japanese restaurant I go to regularly (and I mean REGULARLY) is Matsuya on Clark (about 2 blocks south of Wrigley Field). They wait on you pretty fast, mainly because they are usually rather busy, but the sushi and the rest of the food are quite good.... and CHEAP too!

Itto Sushi (north Halsted)
Kuni's (Evanston)

Honorable mention:
Nohana (north Broadway)
