Here are several suggestions for some good places that would be a complete change of pace from CT or Tru. You might want to consider Arun's for some high-level Thai cuisine. Clearly in a different league than the usual storefront Thai restaurants. Quite expensive (I think it's now prix fixe, $75), very beautiful room. I believe they're open Sundays. Topolobampo is Rick Bayless' upscale Mexican place. Unfortunately I think it's closed Sundays but it may be worth a call (312-661-1434, 445 N Clark). Geno Bahena, a chef with Bayless since day one, has opened his own place now. Ixcapuzalco has some pretty good food at moderate prices (most entrees well under $20). The mole of the day is usually good (not sure what the Sunday mole is) and I enjoy the quail. Service is well meaning but not always polished. Probably not at Topolobampo's level but a decent value and fun. Dudley Nieto also has a new place, Adobo, another upscale but authentic Mexican spot. I haven't been there yet but his old Chapulin was a favorite of mine. Like Ixcapuzalco, no combination plates (with rice and beans on an overheated platter) are offered. Reviews have been pretty good (except service was criticized in its early days). For breakfast I might recommend Lou Mitchell's, a large lunch counter/ naugahyde booth place that's been around since the 1920s. Pretty much your standard American breakfasts but everything is homemade and very good. If you spend over $10 you'll burst. When Lou was alive, passing out Milk Duds to the women, it was closed on Sundays but now it's open every day. A great old Chicago place. With the exception of LM all these places take reservations (may not be essential Sunday night). Of course you'd be wise to call to confirm that any of these places are indeed open on Sunday. I hope this is helpful and that you'll let us know where you went and how it was.
