Don't know Northbrook, but if you can travel a few miles south to Chicago's Indian neighborhood (Devon Avenue, between Western and California avenues), there are many good Indian places. I can recommend Indian Garden and Tiffin Kitchen. They are within your stated budget, but the lunch is a steal: an all-you-can-eat buffet for about $7-8. Besides food, the area is a tourist stop in its own right, with sari shops, jewelry shops (22 kt gold), etc. Most shops are closed Tuesdays. -
