Just got blown away by a new restaurant:
Atlantique
5101 North Clark

We'd been trying to get in on a weekend, to no avail, so we popped in on Tuesday night and caught the last remaining table. Our dinner - two appetizers, two entrees, two mineral waters, two desserts, two cappucinos, no wine - cost about $100 (a little less). It was so good! I had an ahi tuna tartare for my appetizer, and it blew me away. DH had a very good salad with asparagus and goat cheese, but the tuna tartare was the clear winner. My main course was the evening's special, soft shell crab over garlicky spinach greens - a dream. DH had an outstanding halibut in ... some sauce I don't remember. For dessert we shared an incredibly rich creme brulee, and a lemon fresh berry tart that was too lemony for my tastes (but the enormous raspberries were the best I've ever had). The restaurant provided a lovely cantaloupe sorbet between courses, and the service was simply outstanding, until the very end of the meal when we were left waiting and had to flag down the waiter for our check (DH and I call that the "Chicago check drop," it happens everywhere, what is that all about??).

I think there was one or two meat and poultry options on the menu, but go for the fish. What a delight!

I couldn't agree more. We've enjoyed Jack's fantastic food for several years now. He used to have 'Daniel J's' over on Ashland near my house. We could come up with an excuse to eat there just about every week.

A few months back I returned from Seattle where I tried several restaurants looking for good seafood. All but 1, Elliots, were fair at best. A few days after I returned we went to Atlantique and had better seafood there.

I love taking visitors from out of town there, they love the food and the service always impresses. Either Doug is great but "Bald Doug" is one of the best waiters ever. Perfect amount of attention without being overbearing.

Last month's Chicago magazine featured restaurants and there was a full page photo of Jack in front of the big fish that hangs in the bar.

He's got another restaurant at Belmont & Halstead called: Jack's American Blend 3201 N. Halsted St.

Less emphasis on seafood but great menu, and good seafood choices. Try it out.
