I can recommend a number but am not sure what "ambiance" you're going for. On Devon, Udupi Palace remains a family fave with dosai and vada high on the Sunday morning chowfest list. However, the room is nothing to wite home about, and often service is "India Standard," meaning have some leisure time if you go. If you're looking for a more something a bit more atmospheric, Mysore Woodlands on the opposite side of the street may suit you better. Still South Indian vegetarian, the food is good and a number of vegetarians I know swear by it. One other option is Arya Bhavan down the street which, in addition to a pure vegetarian buffet, actually offers a bit of Western Inidian cooking (Gujarathi style) alongside the favorite South Indian standards. Enjoy and eat to bursting wherever you go!

On Devon Avenue I can recommend the following all-vegetarian restaurants. They are all between 2500 W to 2700 W Devon. Star (*) means I specially like the place within its category. Mainly for a snack: Sukhadia* (good food, chaotic service) Rajbhog Kamdar Plaza (snack shop inside a grocery store) Meals (fast food style) and snacks: Annapurna* (the $3.99 platter is a great bargain: choice of 3 vegetables, choice of bread, rice) Jai Hind Full service: Arya Bhavan*(buffet on weekends, ~$10?) Udupi Palace* Mysore Woodlands* Abhiruchi Udupi, Woodlands, and Abhiruchi are South Indian. Many Devon stores, including the snacky restaurants close on Tuesdays. Full service ones open everyday but you'll get more of the neighborhood atmosphere if you go another day.
