I love this place. I've gone three times now and ordered Ginger Chicken, Spicey Chicken with Lemongrass, Crispy Noodles with Chicken and Vegetables. I've also ordered some of the bobo drinks, iced coffee, and lemonade in soda.
The rice has always been wonderful. Sometimes I just want to eat the rice. Eating at this place is like eating a good home meal. I think I mentioned this before.
The chicken is fresh, cut up into good sized pieces (not too big, too small) and stir fried with a slight amount of searing in the juicees and sauce to give it a great flavor.
I love the ginger chicken. It is very basic, subtle. pieces of chicken, slices of ginger, an oily base. Very simple. I loved the dish so much that I have ordered it at different restaurnts -- I hate the dish elsewhere. For example, down the road at Silver Seafood they have a ginger sauce which has a tinny aftertaste -- or something they did didn't taste fresh. Or maybe it's an acquired taste.
The lemongrass chicken is a nice variation. It has a similar oily base, with flecks of chili oil(?) and lemon grass flavor coating the chicken. I've forgotton what vegetables were added. I don't know if this is regular, but the chicken pieces seemed cut smaller than the ginger chicken. Could have just been a daily variation. It may something you want to do if you want to increase the surface area for the tasty sauce to cling too. I'll have to order it a few more times to see if they do it the same way every time.
I like the crispy noodles. It's a fairly normal combo for chicken and vegetables - baby corn, snow peas, brocoli, spinach or a green I am unfamiliar with the name of, cripsy noodles, and a brown soy flavored sauce. I haven't had enough of these to give a good rating or compare against other restaurants.
For the bobo/tapioca drinks I think I prefer the ones at Silver Seafood. They have a greater variety.
For the iced coffee, I like it unmixed, and they serve it mixed here. I don't prefer that.
Down the street near the red line stop at Pho Hung, they give you the coffee in an individual drip gizmo. It drips into a cup with condensed milk and sugar the bottom, and then you pour the mix over ice and can mix it however much you want. I prefer that.
Oh, and the lemonade poured with soda is kind of nice, fresh squeezed lemons, but I wish the soda wasn't so sweet. I don't like as much sugar as that.Chicago, IL
