I ate at the country cup in Lisle bowl and it seemed like every other greasy spoon greek diner,,Im gonna look for the Golden Bowl in Bolingbrook as i go thru it daily and have never seen it. Im afraid that out here in the SW burbs there aint much in great dining experiences. And places that are pretty good are WAYYYY too expensive. However i will reccomend a moderate priced winner in Downers Grove on Ogden ave just West of Main st. The name is the OMEGA! its open 24 hrs,And is Best Greek owned American cuisine ive had,,Its been there for about 20+ yrs AND ive seen it expand its bldg 3 times! to accomadate diners. This aint no fancy place BUT! the soup is homemade, everything is FRESH and they have a Bakery in basement and serve real croissants with your normal bread bowl plus fresh baked bread etc. Try the sweet/sour Cabbage soup every other friday its great! I guess im spoiled cuz i eat out daily and have yet to see more than run of mill diners that serve generic food unless you pay 3x what its worth. One spot i like is the newer CRACKER BARRELS that are in Fox valley,Joliet, and 179/harlem areas,,Very plain country store atmosphere with COUNTRY menus including GRITS,FRied OKRA, Great bread pudding,,Best sausage patties EVER MADE! along with many down home meals! This franchise Hails from Tennesee and i like the blazing fireplaces in winter with Rocking chairs on Porch outside and put Cracker Barrel in a good class of restuarant for the working man!

I think that Omega, while pretty good, is overrated for breakfast. I find most of their pastries to be greasy, which is pretty unappetizing when you think about it. My list for breakfast restaurants has at least 5 names ahead of Omega's. (My experiences are based solely on visits to the Omega in Des Plaines; I'm not crazy about it, but my wife and her family like it, so I've been there a lot since they opened in '84.) And the only "legend" I know about the Omega was that little incident right after they opened with radioactive table legs at the Des Plaines restaurant. jtl
