Both, for different reasons.

Salam is south of the tracks, on the west side of Kedzie, in your standard beige strip mall.

Noon-o-kabob is north of the tracks, on the east side of Kedzie, and has your standard green awning.

If you have walked more than a block from the train stop, you have walked too much...

I ate lunch at Salam on Monday, mixed shawarma plate with humus instead of rice, salad, pita, olives and pickled turnips. I also ordered, though I certainly did not need, a few of the best falafel in town at 19 cents per. excellent food, interesting atmosphere.

There is also a sweet shop located one shop north of Salam. Lots of Middle Eastern type sweets, including my favorite crushed wheat and pistachio.

The owner is charming, maybe even 'ethnically charming,' either way Noon O Kabob is a great place for a Kabob or two. I especially like the zatar they keep on the tables to shake on the meat. The sumac in the zatar lends a tart, slightly sour fruit zing that I really enjoy.

Enjoy,
