Ok, let's talk late-night eats... aside from the "Golden" establishments, Denny's, and the SliderFactory(aka White Castle), where do YOU go for chow say, after midnight? Cuisine is not as much an issue as is decent food after most normal people have gone to bed... my choices below will reflect a certain predilection toward greasy(sic) food, but what the hell? :)

For your consideration, I present the following:
Tecalitlan, on Chicago Ave, around 1800 block
good cheap mexican food, open allatime

El Taco Loco (several locations on the north side... Lawrence east of Ravenswood, Lincoln north of Foster)
    ditto...

Delhi DarBar(sp?), on California just north of Devon
the lamb there is incredibly tasty.

(the recently closed, much to my dismay)River Kwai on Belmont
greasy chinese food, hole in the wall... yum!

My growling tummy awaits replies...

my votes go to Arturo's & Lazo's, they're right next to each other on the corner of western and california. both have great mexican food, serve alcohol and are frequented by chicago's finest (if you're squemish about the neighborhood :).

Plus tropical fish tanks!

What kind of food is this?

There quite a lot of late-night or 24-hour diners around Chicago (though few out in the Northwest suburbs, which is a problem for me). But if you want something other than the all-night breakfast and burger place with revolving cake display, it becomes much more difficult.

The City That Works goes to bed early.

I am always looking for places to go after getting out of the theater and, especially on weeknights, find the pickings slim.

There are quite a few places in Greektown and Chinatown, however (including the new Malaysian restaurant, Penang, which is open daily till 1 a.m.: 312/326-6888, 2201 S. Wentworth Ave., Chicago, IL 60616.)

Some other options:

Korean Restaurant
773/878-2095
2659 W. Lawrence Ave.
Chicago
24 hours 7 days

Kamehachi Cafe (sushi bar)
312/664-3663
1400 N. Wells St. (second floor)
Chicago, IL 60610
    5 p.m.-1:30 a.m. Tu-Sa;
    4:30-11:30 p.m. Su
    Lunch, 11:30-2 Tu-Sa
(Note that this is entered from a different door as the main Kamehachi restaurant, which closes at 10:30; the menus are the same)

Mrs. Park's Tavern (American)
312/280-8882
DoubleTree Guest Suites
198 E. Delaware Place
Chicago
11:30 a.m.-1:30 a.m. 7 days
Breakfast, 7-10:30 7 days

Wollensky's Grill (steak)
312/670-9596 Grill
318 N. State St.
Chicago, IL 60610
    11:30 a.m.-1:30 a.m.
(a different, more abhreviated menu than Smith &
Wollensky)

Bijan (French bistro)
312/944-0445
663 N. State St.
Chicago
11:30 a.m.-3:15 a.m. 7 days
(A lot of restaurant workers hang out here. The food's OK, but it's really a bar and can be smoky)

Well, the 2nd poster mentioned El Famous Burrito.. There stuff is too salty! However, in the Joliet Illinois Area ( http://www.joliet-il.com ), there is the BEST hot dogs in town open until 2 or 3am called "Joes Hot Dogs" The fries are awsome! A HUGE lunch bag full for only about $1.50... Then there's Burrito King on "6 Corners" However DON'T get the chirozo taco's the meat's OLD and really salty! The burritos are HUGE though!

I too am a musician who works late and I've tried plenty of 2 AM joints.
Arturos (Western and Armitage) is just OK unless you rarely are exposed to mexican food. I still eat there after gigs and it certainly is satisfying but not a great restaurant. A better place, for heart attack burritos or chili rellenos tacos at least, is La Pasidita (sp?). They have a chain of three places all within a half block of each other on Ashland south of Division and at least one is open late night.
