Guh Sarng 6240 N. California Ave Chicago 773-764-8018 Fantastic Korean BBQ with charcoal right in the middle of the table. Guh Sarng has a wide array of side dishes. The octopus in hot red pepper sauce is a good dish to share as an accompaniment to the BBQ. I am 99.9% certain that this is the exact address. There are 3 or 4 restaurants in this small complex and if this is not the correct address it is next door. The others are not Korean BBQ so be sure to look for the tables with the pots of charcoal in the middle. Guh Sarng is my favorite Korean BBQ in Chicago. Garden Buffet 5347 N Lincoln Ave Chicago 773-728-1249 A gigantic Korean buffet that has BBQ, all types of dishes and even some sushi. Garden does use live flames to cook the food at the table. I forget if they use charcoal or gas. Gin Go Gae 5433 N Lincoln Ave Chicago 773-334-3894 Not just BBQ but all types of Korean dishes. Gin Go Gae cooks the BBQ in the kitchen. I also like Chicago Kalbi, which Dave R mentioned in his post. Enjoy, Gary

NNTP-Posting-Date: Sun, 09 Aug 1998 03:49:37 CDT Xref: chi.eats:2925 Correction: I posted the name Guh Sarng as my favorite Korean BBQ restaurant and went on to say I was not absolutely certain of the address. I did have the correct address and phone number. I had the wrong name. The actual name of the restaurant is Hai Woon Dae Restaurant. We have been to Hai Woon Dae many times. Our most recent visit has been within the last 3 weeks. Irrespective of my inability to remember the correct name, Hai Woon Dae remains my favorite Korean BBQ restaurant in Chicago. Enjoy, Gary Hai Woon Dae 6240 N. California Chicago, IL. 60659 773-764-8018 G W. wrote: >Guh Sarng >6240 N. Someone wrote: : Can anyone recommend a Korean BBQ or two or three in the city? GARDEN RESTAURANT. Up on Lincoln Ave just before Foster in a strip mall. It's ALL-U-CAN-EAT as well as 'Cook-it-yourself'. Everybody sits around a stove built into a table and gets their own red-hot coals to broil beef, (Pool Ko-Ge), beef shortribs (Kal-Be) chicken, pork, squid, shrimp, chitlins, livers, fish, etc. etc over. Unlike those STOO-pid cheapskate places like 'Flat-Top' they don't charge you extra for the shrimp! Scallops ? Uhhhh, I dunno.... Besides the raw food, there is a buffet of all sorts of other delicacies, particully speciality korean fish. If that's not enough punsihment for you gluttons out there, they have a special room for ... KARAOKE!!!! About $19.95 / head. : Thanks : : Tony : :

I've been >there once and was impressed with the concept of cooking your own >food at your table. The restaurant itself, however, was garish. There are a number of 'you cook at the table' Korean BBQ restaurants in and around Chicago, my favorite is out in the suburbs, but there's a good one (cramped seating, but good food) on Kedzie just north of Lawrence, there's also the slightly more expensive non-AYCE place on Western just north of Foster. Neither of the two have much signage outside in english, just 'Restaurant' and lots of Korean letters :-)
