The Hopleaf is among the better bars in Chicago I would say. Fairly large airy-feeling room with a nice old bar on one side and tables and booths on the other. Mostly 30ish neighborhood types. Moderately civilized atmosphere but not stuffy. Lots of conversation, music is playing but volume is fairly low. About a dozen well-chosen beers on tap, mostly US micros. Nice selection of bottled beers with many Belgians. There are certainly other spots in Chicago with more extensive beer selections but it's more than respectable. Some wines by the glass and a few interesting spirits. No food except pretzels. An excellent place to sit and talk and drink some good beer.

I probably wouldn't go back Sandy
