Strolled out for a quick lunch today back to Chinatown. I headed for the newer mall, called Chinatown Square. Went to Shui Wah.

At first what drew me in was the inexpensive lunch specials posted on the window, but upon sitting down noticed everyone else was having dim sum so I did the same.

There's about 50 items on the special dim sum menu organized into types of dim sum. Steam, baked-panfried-deepfried, Bun, Rice Crepe, Congee-rice, and dessert.

I had a steamed Chiu Chow Dumpling, which is likened to a gyoza, or pierogie. It's steamed with peanuts, pork, many veggies and comes in a serving of three total. Alongside the steamed dish, I had a rice crepe, mixed vegetable. Very fresh ingredients again came in a portion of three. I also included two fried dim sums....a Seaweed roll, which is really a makimono type of roll with crabmeat in the center dipped in an egg batter and deep fried, four pieces total. Excellent flavor and texture. I also had another fried dish...salted squid. The squid was a really lage portion of fresh squid cut into longish strips and lightly fried using the Chinese salting technique that is the same they do with shrimp in the shell. Very fresh squid. This all came with complimentary hot tea.

Total bill with tx $8.05. I took home more than half of the squid.

The service was very professional and attentive...all the dim sum came out at the same time. I was the only sort of white guy in the place with all other patrons being Asian. Not much English spoken by anyone. Very clean and pleasant surroundings. If I was going back with many people during the 11:30-1pm rush there could be a wait for a table.

I have eaten at a few other dim sums in Chinatown, haven't been to Phoenix yet, but so far this one has been by far the best. Including comparing it to Hong Min's dim sum.

Rating on scale of 1-10..... 9+
