Good place for Fish in the city?

You might try Cy's Crab House. It's big, loud, sometimes bustling, and because their volume is so big, the fish is fresh. The raw bar is not bad, and a good deal at $9.95 all-you-can-eat, on certain nights. Bonus: they have their own off-street parking lot.

i wouldn't recommend cy's to anyone...i've been there three times and each experience was worse than the previous (i wouldn't go there again, even if someone else is paying!). to sum it up: chewy squid, poor service, long wait for food, overcooked food, worse service... granted, the raw bar is decent, but you have to sit at the bar to get the special, which i imagine would be pretty hard with a 4.5 mo.-old. my suggestion: La Rosa (just s. of armitage on western) they specialize in spanish/mexican style seafood...red snapper, octopus, oysters, etc. the selection is huge and i've never had a bad meal there. it's bright and fairly noisy (even if it's empty, there's music playing, so i don't the baby would disturb anyone) and there's live music on weekend nights which makes it very noisy. there's free parking behind the restaurant. if you're not down for anything that adventurous, i can't say anything bad about shaw's...

try 65 Seafood, a chinese restaurant that specializes in of course seafood. It's at the southern most addresses on Wentworth across from Evergreen...which also has really great fish and seafood. I have been bringing my kids to both since all were new borns. One of my son's favorite dishes is the pike, with ginger and green onions...it's served as the whole fish which is really enough for 3 or 4 people for about 20.00. Gotta have the cold jellyfish appetizer also.....Oh yeah I usually throw in a few extra bucks as a tip when the kids leave more on the floor than they get into their mouths, but I'm guessing with a 4 month old that's not a problem yet.

Mmmmm,

Our favorite place for seafood is:

El Barco
1035 N Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60622-3931
Phone: (773)486-6850

They specialize in Mexican seafood. We love the whole snapper, and any of the ceveche is wonderful. But, for a real treat try the Mexican grill (about $25 for two people). You get a mix of snapper, steak, chicken, clams, shrimp, crab legs, and more on a grill brought to your table plus sides of beans, rice salsa and tortillas.

You might want to go to Santorini, in Greektown. They have excellent seafood, and are child-friendly.

I would second that; Santorini is a great place, and wonderful when the weather gets cold and they have the fireplace going. I know the original request said that going to Shaw's with potentially loud children (and I'm not judging here) was OK but I can't say I ever felt that Shaw's was that type of place. My concern would be that diners around you might not be too happy if the children became boisterous (at Shaw's).

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. We now have a nice list of good seafood restaurants in the city, which is great to have. Just figured I'd let you know that we ended up going to the Hubbard St. Grill, since we needed to change our reservation time at the last minute. This place is not usually very busy, so we were able to get reservations for Saturday night when we called on Saturday afternoon. I don't really know why the place is not more busy than it is, because we really liked it. It is a couple of blocks west of LaSalle on Hubbard St. It has valet parking, although you might be able to find parking in that part of the city anyways. It is fairly spacious on the inside and has a dim, relaxed atmosphere. I had their Grillroom Salad (mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, and a crumbled bleu cheese dressing) to start and their Filet of Golden Tilapia (done in a white wine sauce with spinach). It was excellent. My wife and her aunt got the marinated skirt steak and were not impressed with it, however. They said the steak was done very nicely, but there was a bit too much sauce. Prices seemed reasonable (especially since we weren't paying). I believe the steak was around $24 and the tilapia was around $17. Well, thanks again for your responses.
