I went Tuesday night, and I can't wait to go back. The place is unique
and the food is excellent.
There is no menu to speak of, they have a brochure that describes the
dining style.
Start with the salad bar... but calling it a salad bar is like calling a
Ferrari a car. You'll find a wide assortment of marinated veggies: asparagus, artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, and other lesser but still delicious members of the vegetable community. Cheeses, breads, olives, prepared salads, salami and proscioutto round out the display. And it is a display, beautifully executed.
While munching your salad stuff, they bring the sides: garlic mashed
potatoes, polenta, fried bananas, and cheesy-bread.
When you're ready for the fun to start, turn over your coaster from the
red side, to the green. Costumed gauchos (and they're authentic, they are staff from the original Fogos in Sao Paulo, Brazil) begin the meat service that will knock you out with variety and flavor. There are 15 different meats available: filet, sirloin, round, lamb chops and loin roast, sausage, chicken legs and breasts rapped in bacon, and others I couldn't even get to. A gaucho arrives carrying beef round with garlic on a sword, and asks how you like it : rare, medium, etc.. He slices exactly what you want, as much as you want, and you take your slice with tongs and put it on your plate. Other gauchos show up with the other selections, and they keep coming until you fill your plate and turn your coaster over to red, signaling hold the onslaught, I want to eat! When you have the room on your plate, and want to try something else, flip the coaster to green, and they gallop over. Lest you think this is average quality buffet stuff, it is not. These meat selections were top-shelf, seasoned and cooked to perfection.
The waitstaff was attentive and very well informed.
The price for all of this is $38-39, dessert and booze are extra.
Speaking of dessert, it is worth an extra couple of bucks (if you still have room), especially my favorite, flan. Steve & Barbara Chicago
