Bishop's Chili is perhaps an acquired taste, it's certainly not like any other chili you'll eat. Apparently they use no tomato in it (it's like they made a base from beans that have been reduced down to a sauce and then add more beans and cook it real slow for a long time). It's like some strange 1920s version of chili for people who'd never eaten real Tex-Mex chili. Having grown up with the Bishop's in Forest Park, I have a fond place in my heart for the stuff. You either like it or you don't, but I wouldn't really compare it to any other type of chili. Share what you know. Learn what you don't.

Bishop's Chili?

In fact, the Westmont Bishop's closing made the CBS news in one of those "On The Road" subjects, either with Charles Kuralt before he passed away or with James Earl Jones (can't remember). Chili is not my cup of tea, but if you're in the area, Portillo's beef, any kind of good ribs (the Patio in Darien is pretty good), Home Run Inn pizza (a location in Darien), and White Fence Farm chicken are at the top of my list. Yum. Looking forward to visiting the restaurants (ok, my family, too) in Downers Grove later this month! - Bob in RSM, CA On Tue, 10 Aug 1999 00:33:47 GMT, [email removed] (Jose Muldoon) wrote: >Thanks for all the replies. White Fence Farm is in the Lemont/Bolingbrook area off I-55 (I think it is on Joliet Road) and has a long reputation as a special occasion family restaurant specializing in Fried Chicken. The place is HUGE! They have a few carryout loactions, including one in Downers Grove on Fairview (the old Cock Robin) near the RR tracks. > >Been in the area ~2 years and still waiting to try Patio, it smells great >but always seems unbelievably crowded with suburbanite-minivans (the death >knell of any BBQ place). > >I usually wind up at Uncle Bub's on Cass in Westmont as well as the >Country House on 55th in Clarendon Hills. By the way, I just heard that the Robinson's Ribs Take-Out at 75th and Lemont just closed. Bummer. I have heard there is a good take out rib place Cass near 63rd St in Westmont, but it has changed hands so I don't know how good it might be. - Bob in RSM, CA

Pizza - Pizza Capri, Main and Curtiss Ribs - Dorothy, my wife and the ribs lover, still likes the ribs at the Omega the best. Italian Beef - Neither of us enjoy Italian Beef, so can't help you with this one. There is also a pretty decent Mexican restaurant, Las Palmas, on Ogden Avenue across from Dominick's (where KMart used to be - how far back do you go, Bob?). Shree Indian Vegetarian restaurant in back of the Jewel at Cass and Ogden has a very filling and interesting cuisine. Zanders Cafe at Maple and Belmont - low priced and tasty meals. Italian - Clara's, just north of Hobson Rd. on Rte. 53 in Woodridge, or Vivaldi in Downtown DG. Microbrews - Founders Hill, on Min Street where Stillwell Buick (waay back!) and InterVarsity Press used to be. We live about two blocks east of downtown DG. For twenty years we lived on Blodgett near Summitt. Dorothy grew up in DG. Dave
