You're going to love Wailea!

OUr favorite dinner on Maui is up the coast from there about 1/2 hour to Lahaina, a yuppified little town on the water. THe restaurant is David Paul's. Great wine, great food, neat atmosphere. Good for grazing. Try the ahi tuna--it was fabulous.

The Grand Wailea resort has some restuarants worth checking out, too.

have a wonderful time.

An ver yenthusiastic second to David Paul's. Adventuresome, delicious cuisine.

Also in Lahaina (we stay in Kapalua, so know that end better) try Longhi's. In Kaanapali, the Hyatt Regency lunch buffet is great... unlimited ahi sashimi.

Mama's... I'm in the distinct minority here, but my one experience there revealed it as HIGHLY overrated.

Maui no ka oe.

Just one comment on Longhi's. I visited Maui 4 yrs ago and had dinner at Longhi's with my wife. While the meal was very good, the experience was somewhat annoying. They had waiters that recited the menu to you. A written menu was not available. The menu was quite extensive so it was difficult to mull over a decision over what to order. The entire menu was a la carte. I spent $ 16.00 on a side order of asparagus. That aside, I would heartily recommend Eric's Seafood Grotto. The macadamia nut mahi-mahi was unbelievable. We were back the following night. That was my experience, I'm sure there are alot of other great restaurants on this incredible island.

I would definitely recommend David Paul's in Lahaina, and Mama's in Paia. I was just there on my honeymoon and I really liked both places.

The Bay Club at Kapalua (15 minutes north of Kaanapali. Terrific food, and a drop-dead view. The restaurant looks out over the bay (natch), and you can watch the sun set behind Molokai. The whole experience can't be beat.

Just my opinion, but I was less than thrilled with David Paul's, certainly compared to some of the other places we ate at. And Mam's is an interesting place with a nice view, but their prices were higher than I would have expected at a place like that, and it did not compare to the really top places. They also pissed me off by refusing to allow me to reserve a window table for a 5:30 reservation. It IS however, an excellent place to eat if you're catching an evening flight home, as it's 10 minutes from the airport, and they have some interesting stuff on the menu. If it were about 1/3 cheaper it would be about right.

For a very special dinner go to the westin hotel (I forget the name, it may be the kannapali). The westin usually has several restaurants and is wonderful. I ate there when it was a rockafeller resort and the food was wonderful and westin has kept up the tradition.

Warning...they are not cheap. They might want to drive there, if not staying there and check out the menu before making reservations.

I'd also recommend Roys as another poster said. Also for just a lunch downtown lahina is great. Lots of little places overlooking the ocean. If they are lucky they'll see the whales jumping :-). Tell them I am jealous!!!

I was VERY less than thrilled about Roy's. During the week of my honeymoon, I called on a Wednesday for a Friday night reservation at Nicolina's. When we arrived we were told that we did not have a reservation there, and when he checked Roy's Kahana, they had no record of it either. As it was Friday night, the restaurant was packed and we were told we could wait at the bar for an available table. We were treated very rudely, almost as if we were making the reservation up. We were treated rudely at the bar as well for not ordering food there. After being ignored for 15 minutes we left rather than pay big bucks for rude and snotty treatment. I don't know if their food is good or not, but I will never try to find out again.

Although it has been five years since we ate there, I would recommend the Swan Court Restaurant in the Hyatt Regency. Outstanding (but pricey) food. The view and service were first rate, the food was excellent.
