The only restaurant on the island that required one was destroyed by Hurricane Iniki a few years ago. The best restaurant is A Pacific Cafe, in Kapaa (I think). Great food, a bit expensive. Brenneke's at Poipu Beach is very good for lunch. We also like the Italian restaurant at the Hyatt in Poipu (Dondero's??). Regards, Russ Barbour
Hawaii
Kauai, Hawaii
On the North shore, the Princeville hotel has two great restaurants with unbelievable views. We ate dinner at La Cascada our last night there and it was memorable. People recommended the seafood buffet night which we missed (Fridays) at the hotel (I think the restaurant was called the Hanalei cafe). In Hanalei we also enjoyed lunch at Tahiti Nui - very casual - sit on the porch for the best views.

First off, don't worry about dress, as almost all restaurants in Hawaii are casual. The best restaurant on the island is: A Pacific Cafe. Go there for some of Jean Marie Josselin's wonderful French/Hawaiian creations. Entrees in the $15-25 range. For decent Chinese and Japanese food in an excellent setting, try Hanamaulu Tea House. Reserve a seat in the special teahouse rooms, where you can view the garden from your seat on the mat floor. Reasonable prices, with a total dinner bill of maybe $25 for two. I also highly recommend the excellent Saimin and terriyaki at Hamura Saimin Stand. More yummy food than you can eat for $5 a person. Happy eating! Aaron
Great Seafood:
The Seafood Company in Poipu doesn't look like much but great f
fresh seafood. about 1 mile from the Hyatt, casual, not beach attire
Elegant Lunch:
Kilohana Plantation in Lahui shops all around in an original plantation
house with lunch served on the veranda. great setting kids can run
around outside
Hyatt:
The Italian restaurant (can't remember name) is a very upscale
dining room with very good food and wine list. The hotel bar is fun
to go to at around 8pm, they play an Hurrican Inikii video tape. And the
lobby bar overlooking the Pacific at sundown is absolutley a treat
they usually have entertainment and at sun down have a hula dancer
and the men dancers run across the property and light all the tiki
torches.....cheap fun, great view
