Sorry, I've never heard of The Willows, but a good place to eat on Oahu is the Chart House in Kaneohe, on the south east side of the island. It's about a half-hour drive. The food is great, and there's a really nice view...

Aloha!

The Willows has indeed shut its doors and you'll find nothing there. There was quite a celebration when it closed; old regulars and musicians showed up for one last hurrah.

As for finding something similar, you might go to the Tahitian Lanai in Waikiki. I'm not saying either the Willows or TL is all that spectacular; just similar fare. TL is threatening to close every three months. It gets old.

May I recommend three restaurants here in Honolulu? You should visit at least one of them. There's Roy's in Hawaii Kai. Excellent! I have never left there disappointed. The wait help is extremely courteous and friendly and the food is superb.

Alan Wong's on King Street. This new restaurant is on the top floor of a low-rise building which had just been built in the last two years. I hear nothing but raves.

Sam Choy's on Kapahulu Avenue; above Hee Hing's where Tripton's used to be. Sam is into portion as the man is of big proportions. His success in Kona inspired him to open in Honolulu; soon to open in Tokyo (April 1) and he is now introducing a line of frozen foods. We're concerned the big guy might get too big and the quality will be diminished. But so far, so good. He just started a new TV cooking show; which airs here in Honolulu 5 p.m. Saturdays on our NBC affiliate. It is fantastic. Especially if he keeps Lee Cataluna on as his local gal sidekick.

But I digress.

Forget The Willows. Forget macadamia on mahimahi. Try something new.

Aloha Marie,

As a matter of fact Roy's Bistro is in Waikiki, but I honestly don't know whereabouts. You'll find it; I'm sure everyone who lives-works-breathes in Waikiki would know that. Hanatei Bistro, which is in the building next to Roy's in Hawaii Kai, is quite popular. OnJin Kim, the female chef who owns the place, is also an opera singer and will sometimes perform for her guests.
