Don't remember the name, but there is an excellent BBQ joint right at the interstate...main exit going into Brunswick (or one of them).

I haven't been there (yet), but Jane and Michael Stern recommends The GA Pig at exit 6 off I-95 in Brunswick, GA. I made note of it a few weeks ago for an upcoming trip intended in a few weeks.

There are only two good restaurants in Brunswick, so far as I know.

The good news is that they are both phenomenal.

The Ga Pig has the best chopped pork sandwiches I've ever eaten. They press them down in some sort of panini-like contraption, and that makes them delicious.

We stopped in many years ago, and the place scared the dickens out of my mother; chickens and cats roaming around, looked like something out of Deliverance. But the food made it an experience well worth having.

On a more upscale note, there is a restaurant in downtown Brunswick I've been dying to eat at.

Cargo was created by Alix Kenagy, a New Englander who spent many years in Atlanta and created both Partners and Indigo, my two favorite restaurants of the late 80s-early 90s.

Knowing Alix, the place likely offers some of the best cooking in the country. The menu looks like a mix of New South, seafood, and Caribbean-influenced dishes. If you do get to eat there, report back and let us know.

After reading your post more thoroughly, I definitely think Cargo is closer to what you're looking for.

The Ga Pig is a great pit stop, but Cargo is much more of a meal.
