There are an incredible number of good restaurants in Atlanta. For Italian, I would recommend a place by the name of Pricci, in Buckhead. It is owned by Buckhead Life restaurant group and any of their places is likely to be great (Pano & Pauls, 103 West, Buckhead Diner). Closer to downtown, a French place by the name of Ciboulette is fantastic. You will eat very well at any of these places. Ciboulette is a bit on the expensive side... but worth it!
