Hi,

Hope this reaches you before your trip. Walking in downtown Atlanta can be mostly ok. Do be careful though as not too many people live downtown and it can get a little too deserted for my comfort at times. However, I know of no incidents that have occurred but I do like to err on the side of caution.

Underground is ok -- Mick's restaurant (fern bar) is quite good. Try their fried green tomato appetizer. For an upscale, quite good restaurant, try the City Grill. Other restaurants on the upscale side (but I haven't eaten there so can't give recommendation) are the restaurant at the top of the Peachtree Plaza. At least go there for a drink as it gives a wonderful panoramic view of Atlanta. Also is the dining room at the Ritz-Carlton downtown, but the Ritz in Buckhead is better. I don't know anything about Pitty-Pat's porch apart from that it has been there a long time. For really authentic, really cheap, good Southern food, take a cab to Mary Mac's Tea Room on Ponce de Leon -- not far. Mary Mac's is not fancy in the least, but it is one of the few places left for authentic Southern food.

A Taste of India is a little further walking distance on Peachtree, but also good. In the same area is The French Quarter for cajun. Both are good, neither are fancy.

Best wishes for a good trip. Regards, KK
