Ignore the reply you got recommending Pleasant Peasant, Coach and Six, Dante's. etc. They might be ok places in some ways (for ex., Dante's *is* "fun"), but *not* what you asked for. For almost-world-class food in a luxurious atmosphere with prices that are not quite as stratospheric as those New York etc. spots: The Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead (clearly the top chef in Atlanta works here: Gunther Seeger--assisted by the *best* sommelier in the whole U.S. of A., Michael McNeil--see current issue of the Wine Spectator). Pano's and Paul's is also a classy place--your 1st responder was right about that. Hedgerose Heights--Mimi Sheraton's favorite restaurant in Atlanta--an elegant experience with pretty reliable food & excellent service. Bacchanalia--not as fancy as these others, but one of my favorites anyhow. In a renovated old house, upscale country French food in a family-run establishment, very reasonable markup on their well-chosen wine list. If you're looking for the kind of meal you suggested in your original note, start calling now for a weekend reservation at one of these--and be prepared to eat early or late. Bon appetit!
