Cafe de la Paix is really awful, IMHO. When in Paris last summer I stayed at the hotel adjacent to it (the Grand Hotel Intercontinental) which was an overpriced tourist trap. The restaurant was basically the same. I remember spending at least $40 for a dinner that really honestly tasted like parts of it came out of a frozen dinner. If you ever saw the movie "European Vacation" with Chevy Chase, there's a scene where they are in a restaurant in Paris that they think is wonderful French cooking, and the camera goes to the kitchen where the "chefs" are dumping TV dinners onto plates. Anyway I was reminded of this scene while eating my chicken cordon bleu at Cafe de la Paix. On a more positive note, a place I enjoyed in Paris was a brasserie called Bofinger's. I did succeed in knocking a bottle of champagne off of a waiter's tray while taking off my jacket, but the ensuing embarrassment didn't take away from my dining pleasure. After all, I'm American. I'm supposed to do stupid things in France.
