I have a few suggestions for restaurants in St. Petersburg, FL.

My father lived there for many years and my wife and I were there a year ago.

Gianola's Deli - around 8th Ave and 38th St. This is a small deli
with just a few tables - not open too late.
Best italian sandwiches I have had south of Boston
or Philadelphia. We carried frozen manicotti back to
                Houston with us.

The Brown Derby - a chain of 3 or 4 restaurants. I feel that the one
near Bay Pines VA Hospital has the best view. These
are primarily steak houses. Very good food, and remarkably
                low prices.

Leverrock's Seafood & Steak Restaurants - we have had very good seafood
here - particularly when they were having a special on
Maine Lobster. This is also a small chain and the one
near the VA Hospital has a view and deck over the bay.

    Hope this helps

Have eaten at Leverrocks on several occasions definitely recommend seafood, but not in fancy sauces - they realy don't do these very well. They also have early evening specials (call for time). Prices reasonable

For Jamaican food try Saffrons. Very good & unusual. Prices: can get away with under $20 per person - might be stretching it a little for 2

For unusual atmosphere (picnic tables & outside bar) and smoked fish try Ted Peter's. Also have hamburgers that are pretty good

I didn't see the original post asking for restaurants in the St. Pete area, but I grew up next door in Largo and visit frequently, since my folx still live there.

The Kapok Tree is indeed closed; it was more or less a tourist (and senior citizen) spot in any case.

Some places I would recommend:

Geo. Pappas Restaurant on Clearwater-Largo Rd in Largo. This is an excellent greek restaurant run by the same family that runs the well-known Pappas Restaurant in Tarpon Springs. Very good food, casual dress, reasonable prices.

Tio Pepe's on Gulf-to-Bay Blvd in Clearwater. Spanish cuisine; their paella and sangria are superb, the prices are high and the wait *may* be long :-(.

The Lobster Pot and The Wine Cellar are both over on the beach; both have excellent seafood & continental entrees and both are rather high priced, but worth it.

Leverock's has been recommended before; they have pretty good seafood and decent prices. I hear their early bird specials are a good deal, but haven't tried 'em out.

Last time I was down we went to a place called Shells on the beach. Cheap seafood but fairly good and lots of it. The scampi was delish.

Well ... that's all I can think of at the moment. If anyone has more detailed questions, feel free to email me :-)

I posted about the Kapok Tree Inn and have just found out that they closed down about two years ago.

Sorry. It was a great place to go.
