Palm Springs

here's my review from Jan, 1990:

I recently spent 1 week in the Palm Springs area; below is a brief review of some restaunrants, in order of my rating (**** is highest rating). I wore shorts, and brought our 2-year old daughter along, to all of them.

Ajetis ****
68784 Grove Street (at Highway 111)
Cathedral City
(619) 328-7518
This tiny storefront serves great Albanian food. Be prepared to take home most of your entree after you stuff yourself with the wheat pita, soup, and unique salad. There are vegetarian dishes if you don't want the lamb entrees.

Le Cafe de Paris ****
72-820 El Paseo
Palm Desert
(619) 346-7356
A French restaurant in a dreary shopping mall? Don't knock it until you try it!

Delhi Palace ***1/2*
1422-24 North Palm Canyon Drive
Palm Springs
(619) 325-3411
Wonderful Indian lunch buffet in the "downtown" area. Since it's not in the immediate shopping strip, we had no difficulty finding parking space. The buffet included tendoori chicken brought to the table; the waiter asked us whether we wanted refills on the chicken or the bread, but we were stuffed.

The Wilde Goose ***
67938 Highway 111
Cathedral City
(619) 328-5775
This place got all kinds of "best" awards, but I didn't think the food justifies the high prices. And why do the waiters wear black ties? The "Wilde" in the name means it serves some game such as pheasant and quail.

Las Casuelas Terraza ***
Palm Springs
Sorry! My souvenir matchbook does not list address or phone number! It is in the downtown shopping strip a few blocks south(?) of the original Las Casuelas (see below). This place is a lot bigger, and the food slightly better, than the original, and you can dine out on the terrace.

Las Casuelas **1/2*
368 North Palm Canyon Drive
Palm Springs
(619) 325-3213

The original shop serves basic Mexican fare. It spawned the Terraza and the upscale Nuevas in the "Restaurant Row" in Palm Desert.

Original Thai Cuisine **
4711 East Palm Canyon Drive
Palm Springs
(619) 328-0057
Disappointing Siamese food at moderate prices.
