I was there as a tourist a month ago, so really only
know the touristy places. However, one place stood
out: Jamesons (I think that was the name) about 7 miles
south of Melbourne Beach. Quiet, romantic, very good
food, and less expensive than the more touristy places.

If you're in the military you might also want to try
the O club at the air base (my Alzheimers is kicking in,
but I think it was Patrick AFB), about 15 minutes drive
north. Nice setting, right on the beach.

That's a tough one. Melbourne is practically devoid of decent eateries. But, I'll give it a shot:

Makoto's - very good Japanese fair done with flair at your table. At the Ramada Inn on US 1, and make reservations. Also check out Groucho's Comedy Club there.

Freeman's - English style restaurant in the Winn Dixie shopping center on A1A in Indiatlantic. Extensive menu and Guiness on tap. Reservations required.

The Chart House - excellent steaks and seafood at exhorbitive prices.

The Dove - a little further out of town, up A1A to Satellite Beach. Fantastic northern-Italian food. Excellent wine list. Reservations!

Conchy Joe's - kinda like a theme park of a restaurant on the Indian River in Eau Gallie, just north of Melbourne. A little pricey, but the gator tail is good. This place is packed on the weekends.

That's all I can think of right now. E-mail me if you have questions, and welcome to the Spacecoast!

There are quite a few good places to eat in the Melbourne, Florida area. A few that come to mind are:

Thai Village - has excellent Thai food. Located 3/4 mile west of US 1 on Sarno Road in Sarno Plaza (next to Weight Watchers :) )

Makato's is a Japanese restaurant that has great food (prepared in front of you on a grill) it gives large portions and is a local favorite. It is located in the Ramada Hotel at the corner of US 1 and NASA Blvd.

Seafood: Conchy Joe's has really nice atmosphere located on the river to go along with the good food. It is located on the south side of the Eau Gallie causeway (west bound side) on the mainland end (not beachside).

Seafood: Shell's Restaurant located in front of Melbourne Square Mall on US. 192 also known has New Haven Avenue.

Hope this helps.

here are some of my picks:

Italian Oven, corner of Eau Gallie and S. Patrick - its a restaurant chain,
but I like it better than Olive Garden.

Yvette's French Quarter Cafe, A1A between Eau Gallie and 192, great Cajun
      and French food.

Mr. BeauJean's and The Strawberry Mansion, New Haven Ave, just east of US1 -
      great food and atmosphere.

The Alamo, US1 north towards Rockledge - good Mexican eats.

Hubb's Pub, Eau Gallie and A1A - sports bar, good selection of beers and
      great sandwiches.
