Howdy,

We were in Palm Desert for the begining of the year. Palm Springs is not the center of attention down there anymore. I cannot attest for anything there but offer these two places for you in Palm Desert if you decide to take the plunge:

                        Dakota Bar & Grill
                        73-260 El Paseo
                        (760) 346-0744
                        American .

Low key place, nothing fancy. They had music in the bar which was sorta weird as you have to pass by the singer in order to get into the restaurant. Service was so so, but the food made up for it, they also have a nice heated seating area outside so you can look out onto El Paseo.

I had smoked chicken and baby back rib dinner. Smoked fowl is normally pretty dry, this was tender and delish, and the garlic mashed potatoes that acompanied the dish were very good also. The ribs were falling apart finger licking good. My daughter had of all things, pasta with a tomato base and spicy sausage. I told her this was not an Italian restaurant, but she was not to be deterred, smart girl. Again, a very good dish. Wifey had pork chops and was very pleased. Salads were nothing too exciting but all in all, for a touritsy place like this, I would give it a strong 8.

Next was:

                           Kaiser Grille
74-225 Highway 111 at El Paseo
                           (760) 779-1988
                           American/Seafood/California

I wish we had more restaurants like this in Los Angeles. This place had it all, wonderful service, a crowded lively wonderfully inviting atmosphere, and impeccably prepared food.

I must have been on a meat kick that week, I had the Cajun Prime Rib, the best I have ever had. Cooked just as ordered (rare) with wonderful seasoning. Wife had a Salmon dish, again cooked perfectly and I believe my daughter had pasta again, hmmmmmmm some things never change. We started with totally tender Calimari which disapeared in a flash and split some lovely salads.

This place rated a 10, and I am pretty darn picky,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, my wife hates that!

:)

Bon appetit and let me know if you venture to either of these.

The Nest in Palm Desert. Unpretencious, not expensive, great service. Try the sweetbreads in black pepper sauce!
