The following is the BBQ directory from the New England BBQ Society. Bob Godwin, editor for the NEBBQS newsletter the Burnt Ends, was asked to post this listing. His work is very heavy right now so he asked me to post it for him.

So...here it is.

I have eaten at many of the Massachusetts places and a few of the others. If you have a question regarding a restaurant I'll try and answer it the best I can. Send email. Mike Roberts

Here's an addition to the list. They may not be members of the NEBS but they serve up excellent bbq in a truly no-frills setting.

Stick to Your Ribs (that was it's original name; it may now be called A Taste of Texas or something like that) Stratford Ave. (just off I-95 between Bridgeport and Stratford) Stratford, CT.

This place was opened by Robert Pearson, a British ex-hairstylist who became a bbq devotee, in the early '80's. He has since opened another Stick to Your Ribs in Queens (NYC) and one in Manhattan (also NYC, not Kansas) which I think burned down. When he opened in Queens, the woman who was the head cook (pitmistress?) bought the Connecticut location. She's a very nice person and serves some very good bbq.

I have no connection with them, but here's another plug for Stick to Your Ribs. The original is just off I-95 between Bridgeport and Stratford, CT. It's run by a woman who has cooked there for years. The founder of the place, Robert Pearson, opened another Stick to Your Ribs in Long Island City a few years ago.

Let me add to this list the B & D Deli on Beacon Street in Brookline (the original one about a mile west of
Coolidge Corner; NOT the branch in Kenmore Square, which has a de-ethnicized version of the original's menu).
They're not what they used to be, but they are still pretty good, and about the best I've found in the area.
However, and please don't take this personally Mr. Stein, but I would emphatically REMOVE from this list the S
 & S in Inman Square.

I grew up in Inman Square - for that matter, so did my Jewish mother and grandmother, and yes, there was a time
when the S & S was a real Jewish deli, but those days are long gone. The last time I ordered a whitefish in
there, it was frozen in the middle, and don't even THINK about asking for belly lox, you'll just confuse your
waitress. Not to knock the place entirely - they still serve decent food for the money, AND they're open later
than most places in Cambridge, but if you're looking for culinary nostalgia, forget it. Get the assorted fish
 platter at the B & D.
