Well, I don't know the Hartford restaurant scene at all (I could offer *lots* of New Haven recommendations though), but one Hartford restuarant called Hot Tomatoes has opened a second location down here. If the New Haven branch is at all indicative of the quality of the Hartford orignial, it could be exactly what you're looking for.

I had linguine with lobster meat and asparagus that was quite wonderful and the dessert was a triple creme brulee (three little cups of vanilla, chocolate, and hazelnut creme brulee) that was very good indeed.

The New Haven Hot Tomatoes is not cheap - entrees are about $18-$30, but I understand that the Hartford Hot Tomatoes is a little more reasonable, mainly because it's more casual than the one down here (which is in the converted lobby of the old Taft Hotel).

Alex.
