My favorite in Vail is Terra Bistro (PacRim food); I just ate there last Friday! Also very good are Sweet Basil (Californian) and Wildflower (Nouvelle Continental). Just a notch below these are L'Ostello (sp? Italian) and Uptown Grill (Southwestern). The last two are in Lionshead. All have very good wine lists.

Are you going to ski? I just got back Sunday. They need new snow. The front side is hard packed and the back bowls are crusty and chunky. But it still beats not skiing! And Vail is not a bad place to suffer. Hope you have a good time.

I can strongly recommend at least of couple that I have personally enjoyed over the years:

1) Minturn Country Club - Located just west of Vail a few miles. Not a country club at all, but a western atmosphere saloon/restaurant with a you cook it on the grill theme. Good beef at reasonable prices, also good seafood in the past.

2) Fulton Ironworks - touted as Vail's hardest to find restaurant...it's worth the effort. Somewhat more relaxing then #1 as you don't have to cook the food. Consequently slightly more pricey.

There are many other fine restaurants. Your best bet other than the above is to speak with the locals when you are there...they'll be happy to direct you!!!

Good luck!

If you can divert one + 1/2 hours to the republic of Boulder, CO. check
out the 60 plus menus on the Boulder Community Network (WWW or Telnet to "bcn.boulder.co.us"). You should find anything you want there.

Hallo Arlene,

You probably wouldn't expect your answer to come from Holland (Europe), but we know of at least one excellent Restaurant there. It is called La Tour. My wife and I know the owners quite well as we are in the restaurant business in Holland ourselves.

La Tour is owned and operated by Marie-Claire & Walter Moritz. They have owned the restaurant since 1967. Before that, Walter and I worked at The Seven Continents Restaurant at O'Hare Field in Chicago, right after the opening of that new airport. Walter is Austrian, Marie-Claire is REAL french. Liesbeth and I returned to Holland after a successful restaurant career in the USA.

If you are going to spend some time at Vail we would suggest you go and spend some time at their restaurant and indulge in their fine french provencal cuisine and hospitality. At that time you might also tell them to say hello from Karel and Liesbeth from Holland. Wishing you an enjoyable visit at La Tour, (303) 476-4403 ,

groeten,
Karel and Liesbeth Claessens
