The two best sushi bars I've been to are in Boulder. Both are within 2 blocks of each other. Sushi Mori on 10th street just off of Pearl and Sushi Zanmai on Spruce street between broadway and 13th. Spruce is one block north of Pearl. Both are within 1/2 block of the Pearl Street Mall - the place to go for Nepalese, Thai, and whatever food. Sushi Zanmai is the better of the two and the owner is a real hoot - plays the sax sometimes. You can reserve Japanese rooms there to sit on the floor. The regular dinners are great too. Try the ginger steak. Sunday is the sushi special day.

I will second the motion for Zanmai. It's great. There was a great place named Sushi Toro in Boulder when I lived there in 1990, but I don't know if it's still open.

In Denver, my favorite place is the Sushi Den on West Pearl. It's pretty yuppified- but it's tons of fun, and the sushi is great. Real busy, though. Also, try the Japanese restaurants in Sakuro(sp?) Square downtown. I don't remember their names, but I've had wonderful traditional Japanese food at two of the restaurants.

I'll second that Sushi Den is by far the best sushi in Denver. Toshi has been in business for a long time on Pearl St, and continues to grow every year. Sushi Height on East Colfax is less expensive, if you live on that side of town. Mori downtown is more expensive, sometimes it is great other times not so hot. Talk to Joseph at Sushi Den, he's the host, and ask to sit with Toshi, he'll make you some great sushi, either on the menu or off.

Sushi Den on Pearl Street is not only the best Sushi in Denver, but osme of the best I've had anywhere! It's near the Unuiversity of Denbver campus, and also has a full menu in addition to the Sushi bar!
