Wow. There are a lot. The best used to be Mama Elena's but it's gone. There are tons of great Mexican places in Denver, just avoid Casa Bonita.
Best Green Chili/Smoothered Chicken Burritos: Las Delicias (there are three locations owned by the same couple) They also have excellent Fajitas, but only two days a week (the specials vary from day to day).
Best Gringo-ized Mexican with a good bar: Blue Bonnet
Strongest Margarita: Alamos Verdes
There are plenty of other good restaurants in Denver. If you tell me what kind of food you're looking for I'll tell more!

Great mexican food and margaritas to match. I suggest either the Santa Fe Trail Hash or the Smothered Buffalo Burrito and a "top of the line"`rita on the rocks. For fun after dinner, you may want to check out a few of the micro-breweries located a few blocks from the Mexicali (i.e. Champions located on Larimer; The Rock Bottom on the 16th st. Mall; The Wyncoop located on Wyncoop.) Man do I miss that town! Doug ([email removed]) "Hey Duke, let's go do those crimes." "Yea, uh, let's get some sushi and not pay." -----Repo Man

IMHO, the BEST all-around, authentic Mexican restaurant is the Brewry Bar II at 150 Kalamath street. Val

I just got back from there (though it's home, sigh...), maybe it's not too late to put in a couple of suggestions. If you're talking east Denver, Mataam Fez is a must (heck, it's a must no matter *what* you're talking...). On E. Colfax several blocks east of Colorado Blvd., this Moroccan place is one of Denver's best, and the best Moroccan food I've been to, and I've eaten this cuisine in Paris as well as all around the SF Bay Area. The bastilla is to die for. Make sure you bring plenty of appetite. Delhi Darbar on Blake, downtown, is a truly great Indian restaurant. For the lunch buffet, they bring you tandouri chicken fresh from the kitchen. The dinners - well, try their combos. Note that the Gabby Gourmet doesn't mention Delhi Darbar at all, and gives Mataam Fez two pigs. I'm afraid they aren't very into ethnic foods, and are possibly quite knowledgeable about steak and potatoes. That's OK, just beware!

Our last dinner for two with wine was $68 plus tip. A couple of places by the way that I remembered after posting... Meskerem, an Ethiopian place on East Colfax is quite cheap, and very good. I haven't been to L'Auberge Zen in Aurora for years, but I understand it's still there. It's Japanese-French! The lady who started it hired a Japanese chef who used to work at one of Tokyo's top hotels as a French chef, and he knew both cuisines. It was quite good back then. Any updates?
