Here are some of my favorites: The Fort in Morrison is one of my favorites. Take C-470 to the Hampden Blvd/US-285 exit. Go west to the next exit. The fort is just north of 285. It sits on a hill, overlooking south Denver. It is designed as a nineteenth century adobe fort. The food is great. Buffalo, Elk, Venison, quail, beef, and seafood. The finest array of brandies that I have found. is at The Fort. A good winelist is available. two people, without wine can spend $ 60 to $100. Dress is casual. Reservations suggested. Good Restaurants in Denver
Denver has a lot of great restaurants. Juanita's (on East 17th) or Bluebonnet Cafe (on South Broadway) are great Mexican restaurants that any age can enjoy. Wazee Lounge and Supper Club has great pizza. Avoid Friday night because of the after work crowd. A great place for lunch is Mustard's Last Stand (Chicago style hotdogs). Also Acapella's on 17th. If you can get a sitter, try Strings for a great evening meal. El Rancho is a fun place in the mountains for things like roast beef, trout, etc. with a great view of the rockies. Have fun! Leslie
Both Charco Broiler & El Burrito in Ft. Collins are great
greasy spoons. I have lived in Ft. C. for a number of years
so try the following (if you go there or nearby):
Italian: Bisetti's (prices from $5-$15/ avg $8)
(try their Manicotti Alfredo or
Salmon Alfredo!)
Mexican: Rio Grande (I think there's one in Boulder, too,
so you may have tried it)
Gonzalos (It's in the Old Northern Hotel,
interesting atmosphere, Tex-Mex Food,
Excellent Fajita Salad (not on menu)
and Fajita's; Very inexpensive)
Steak or Fish: The Moot House (avg $10. The best prime rib
with just a hint of garlic! Huge plates of
food!)
Fish (only): You just can't get any closer to fresh, ocean
caught and cooked fish at the Pelican Fish. Owner
& chef is from Calif and they really know how
to cook fish/seafood perfectly! (And, they
know which sauces to use too!) Avg = $10.
Sandwiches, etc.: Silver Grille: great home cooking! cheap!
The Pickle Barrel: great Sub sandwiches, just
like back East!
Avogadro's Number is an interesting atmosphere,
many types of good lunches place. They have
good 'wholesome' food and generous dishes.
Great sandwiches too.
Other Ethnic: Tony's has great gyro's and great wine!
Linden's has major Cajon & great atmosphere with
rythm & blues live tunes!
Other: The Wine Cellar is excellent for many black suit & tie
meals (the waitresses/waiters wear this, you are most
appropriate dressed in casz! avg $15). Try the vegetarian
souffle in champagne sauce, surrounded by strawberries!
They always have entertainment, no extra charge!
OUTSIDE FT. C.:
The Black Canyon Inn near Estes Park is excellent for
steaks (buffalo, etc) plus excellent service and atmosphere.
Rustic, avg $25. Definately need reservation! Casz okay!
There is a little Italian restaurant in LOVELAND, Co. that
has THE MOST EXCELLENT Sicilian dishes! Definately worth
a try. Cozy atmosphere, avg $9. The owner always comes
to talk to you, very Italian. His dishes are prepared with
specially bought cream and Ox cheeses, which make his
food as close to the real thing as you can get in Italy!
He most usually gives samples to you after gorging yourself!
So be prepared to eat alot! Don't ask me the name, it's
somewhere off of 7th East & Lincoln. It looks like a house
with a neon sign (some type of 'liquor' sign).
Definately NOT A GREASY SPOON!
DENVER, finally: Don't know too many; the Mexicali in downtown is an
interesting place (eclectic!) Try their Mole Poblano.
