Vancouver?

These days I would recommend Raincity (on Denmen) over Raintree (on Water). Raintree used to be great but gone somewhat downhill in recent times (IMHO). Have had a couple of great meals at Raincity within the last year.

Another possibility is Fish House in Stanley Park - seafood is Very Typically Northwest. And they do a good job. Haven't yet tried Diva - but they have a good reputation.

Enjoy. It's a great food city.

Lumiere for fine food. We had a truly fine tasting menu there with a selection of BC wines. The foie gras, we understood came from Quebec, but I had no complaints.

We had a really enjoyable more informal lunch at Rain City Grill. They had a very nice wine selection and excellent food.

Years ago I ate at a place called "Kettle of Fish" Only serve what they can get fresh that day. Entre's are on blackboards and change day to day.

If you think Vancouver was a change in attitude, you should try the samll town of Victoria. Oddly enough, we weren't as impressed by the Chinese food we had in Vancouver. Bad luck I suppose, but we had a terrific meal in a Hunan restaurant in Victoria. Victoria's Chinese restaurants are not supposed to compare with Vancouver and the local populace is largely from Canton, or so I was told. Nevertheless, we had some delicately steamed black cod on tofu that was sensational as well as an excellent pork and ham dish. My wife rates the balck cod on a level of what one could expect

Recently had a meal there. The "osso buco" was lamb shanks. Had to send back a bottle of wine, something I haven't done in recent memory. Angel hair pasta was correctly cooked. Service was intermittent and unattentive. "Foccaccia" wasn't. I can't recommend this place, nor would I return.

Try Chinese food in Vancouver, which is widely available and generally very good. A place across the street from the Sutton Hotel had some of the best dim sum I've ever had outside Hong Kong. One thing: be warned that the Chinese waiters in Vancouver are pretty polite and helpful. If you're from New York, you'll understand how disconcerting this can be.
