Trinity Square Cafe, Toronto

The Trinity Square Cafe is located in Trinity Church between the Eaton Centre and the Marriott Hotel on Bay St. It's open only for lunch and for afternoon tea. Service is cafeteria-style.

Since I work at Bell Trinity Square, I often go there for lunch. The food is good and the prices can't be beat (entree with soup or salad is around $5.00 or $5.50). Their desserts are incredible, particularly the carrot cake. I had to make a rule for myself. No getting dessert until I've eaten my meal. The portions are so generous that I don't have carrot cake very often.

But the thing that I like most about the Trinity Square Cafe is the atmosphere of the place itself. For me, it's a haven from the hustle and bustle in the office and the overpowering crowds one finds in the Eaton Centre. Perhaps it's because the church itself is such awonderful, old building. There's lots of wood instead of concrete and glass. The windows are absolutely gorgeous; what one would expect to find in an old church. I like to go there alone and read a book while I'm eating. No one tries to hurry you. It's very comfortable. There is a reason for that.

Trinity Square Cafe is run by Trinity Square enterprises who also have two other cafes as well - Cawthra Square and Third Square. They "operate as a non-profit, charitable organization that provides valuable work experiences to people who need to develop skills and gain confidence in their ability to work". The quote is from the card I obtained from Lisa who manages the Trinity Square Cafe.

Trinity Square Enterprises also does catering. If you are interested, contact Heidi in the Cawthra Square Cafe at (416) 392-6878.
