Rain City Grill on Denman near English Bay -Pacific Northwest cuisine-fabulous wine list-many by the glass; -could be formal or informal; 2. Stanley Park Tea Room: -good food - terrific views; 3. Diva at the Met: -was the "hot" new restaurant in the Metropolitain Hotel when it first opened; 4. Beachside Cafe: -in West Van - good food, good wine list - can then go for a walk along the north side of the straits; 5. The Salmon House: -would never have recommended this place before but a couple of years ago we visited what up to then I had put down as a "tourist trap" - up on the side of the mountains off Folkestone Way (sp?) - terraced dinining room - alder smoked/barbequed fish - excellent Cdn. wine list - expensive - terrific views if the heat haze and clouds cooperate; 6. Joe Fortes Chop House (downtown): -also commonly "put down" as touristy or "happy hour bar meat market" but I have had some good meals there; 7. Le Crocodile (downtown- Pender?): -one of the "old stand by's" for French cuisine; Have also heard good things about La Gavroche, Bishop's and La Lumiere but will have to convince my "expense account pals" to take me there. Hope this helps. Please post what you enjoy for our next visit. Had hoped to get to Seattle at the end of the summer for the Golden Retriever Club of America National but looks like the plummeting "Canuck buck" will keep me north of the 49th parallel this year. I asked this question a month ago and got very few responses. Just returned from both cities yesterday and suggest the Dahlia Lounge on 4th in Seattle. It has a very nice atmosphere with good food in the $16-24 range. My other nicer meal was at Raincity in Vancouver which was okay but I didn't die over anything. Known for its impressive wine list, of course the most expensive glass was what was suggested to me. Sophie's Cosmic Cafe was good for a funkier, cheaper atmosphere. Joanie
