We ate one of our most fondly-remembered meals a little over a year ago at a restaurant called 'Rebecca's" on the road that runs along the harborfront in Victoria. The atmosphere was lovely, the service was excellent, and the food was both creative and delicious.

Tell them to be sure to go to Buchhard (sp) gardens, as well!

There is no question (in my mind) that the best, most romantic and most memorable restaurant in the Victoria area is the Sooke Harbour House, an approximate 30 minute drive from downtown Victoria. This place is amazing. The decor and service are perfect, and there are cabins (very posh, and not inexpensive) available if you aren't interested in driving back. The menu, based on seafood, changes daily, depending on what the fishermen bring in. While "novelties" like barnacles or skate may appear, standard entries include prawns, dungeness crab and oysters. The cost is relatively expensive, at about $50 per person. But if your wedding party likes seafood, you won't be sorry. (As an aside, a friend of mine was a waitress at this place one summer, and she STILL considers it the best restaurant on Vancouver Island. Which says something.)

re: Sooke Harbor House, Sooke, BC (about 40 min west of Vancouver) - Amen, absolutely, the greatest place in the Northwest w/o a doubt. Call well in advance. Stay overnight if at all possible.
